With the rise of pretrained large models and autonomous intelligence, AI is moving from the digital world into the physical world, driving a new industrial revolution centered on industrial large models and industrial embodied intelligence. By giving robots both a “brain” and a “cerebellum,” this transformation aims to help them understand complex instructions, adapt to dynamic environments, and carry out precise operations—bringing a fundamental leap in industrial production. Our lab works at the forefront of this transformation, focusing on the intersection of autonomous multimedia intelligence, industrial large models, and industrial embodied intelligence.
Our principal investigator, Associate Professor Zhi Wang, is at Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School and was selected for China’s National High-level Talent Special Support Plan. The group has long pursued frontier research in networked multimedia, multimedia intelligence, and distributed machine learning. In earlier work, we studied large-scale networked multimedia as a complex system coupling content, networks, and users. Taking a cross-domain “user–content–network” perspective, we systematically revealed the mechanisms connecting these three domains and built an integrated “cloud–edge–device” intelligent media service system. This body of theory and technology provides a strong foundation for addressing the new industrial revolution. We are now advancing our validated multimedia framework of “cross-domain perception–integrated scheduling–cloud–edge collaboration” into a new industrial paradigm of “autonomous perception–intelligent generation–self-organizing topology,” with the goal of building integrated industrial intelligence spanning perception, cognition, and execution.
The group has achieved a strong record of research excellence in related fields.
Our group offers a vibrant academic environment and is committed to developing interdisciplinary leaders with both theoretical depth and practical skills. Group members have received honors including Tsinghua University Outstanding Graduate, Outstanding Thesis, Outstanding Graduate of the Department of Computer Science, and Outstanding Professional Practice Award at Tsinghua SIGS. Our graduates are sought after in industry and academia. Many join leading companies such as Tencent, Alibaba, ByteDance, Microsoft, Kuaishou, and Meituan, where some are selected for talent programs; others pursue further study at leading universities including the University of Toronto, Tsinghua University, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and Simon Fraser University.
We foster an innovation ecosystem that deeply integrates academia, industry, and research. Drawing on experience delivering national first-class courses, we offer courses on frontier topics. In partnership with leading companies such as Purdue Robotics and Dobot, we have established project-based practice bases and co-supervision by academic and industry mentors, giving students hands-on opportunities in industrial large models and embodied intelligence.
We welcome talented young researchers who are enthusiastic about these research areas. We are actively recruiting postdoctoral researchers, PhD students, master’s students, and young faculty (assistant or associate professors). Applicants with strong mathematical foundations, programming skills, and hands-on abilities are especially encouraged to apply.
